I could feel that this was the next of a previous series. Even though this is a new series the author really doesn't give very much background information. Possibly because the story is so short, only 661 locations. It still is an entertaining surprisingly poignant storyline. Since I am such a sucker for male pregnancy romances I am tempted to try out various authors when this is an important part of the story. Unfortunately there has been a glut of inferior mpreg titles. Weeding out the better stories is a mission I've tasked myself with.This shifter tale features a young human, Ben whose one night stand leads to so much more. Often the physical impact of a pregnancy on the male is glossed over in other stories, but not here. The pain, uncertainty, weakness of acute morning sickness is described in detail. In this instance it is made much worse by the sufferer of the illness not being aware of the cause and initially suffering alone.
The shifter has no idea he is a father to be. All he knows is that he met and lost his mate. He is beyond upset. He is angry at himself for allowing his mate to leave and angry with his mate for leaving. But even more he is distraught at being separated from his mate. His desolation is felt by the entire pack. Luckily they both have friends who care deeply about them.Their reunion is fraught with desire, anger, happiness, and incredulity.
Unfortunately since this was such a short story there wasn't more development in several areas: background of main characters, the setting, their relationship after their reunion. I hope since this is the first book in a series there will be more written to answer questions raised. Also be forewarned this has a bit of a cliffhanger ending.

An interesting short paranormal shifter story. The couple's mating, in this story, wasn't the highlight as other books have been. In this book the extreme connection the two have, after the fact, is what gives this story it's strength. Their unbreakable bond brings them together and keeps the reader involved as the story unfolds. As the story closes it leaves the reader hungry for more of Ben and Shad's story. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
A good first in a series. Would have liked to see more depth. How human friends fit. More about pack hope for more in next story
I thought this was a great start to, I hope a new series because I definitely want to read more. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline and there were some unexpected surprises. I've read this author before and she really tells a good story and I look forward to reading more from her.
