After reading the first in the series, I finished thinking I didn't want to read the second, but after a few days I found I was missing the characters, so ordered the second! And then was very frustrated that the 3rd in the series wasn't available.! So one does get drawn into the history, but in the first book I did find Hugo's "foray" into the 21st century very unrealistic. An easy read.
Reason I got a kindle was to read this author's books. I have read the first two of the Wonderland series. The characters seem real to me as I find myself thinking of them when I'm not reading the books. I also thought the transitions to be plausible as well as the story line
Dark and morbid, although probably true to life for the time period. Had to stop reading all together, after repeated attempts to make it through, as it dragged my emotions down so low. Would like to find out the end of the story but couldn't continue.
Irina mixes the history with fiction in such a way that I am often looking up the history side to gain an insight into the time involved. This series is a wonderful series that keeps one interested all the way. I am finding I am picking up my kindle to see what happens next. I am now on to the 3rd book and thoroughly enjoying this good read.
I think another reviewer noted it well - this series rivals books like the Diana Galbaldon outlander books (however, I love Jamie, nothing can really compare to those!), but the love story of Neve and Hugo is very engrossing and this second book was well done. There is love and romance, and suspense. Things come together well at the end and the brief glimpse of book 3 seems promising!
While this is a good continuation of the first book, this story explores the darker side of greed, and cunning. As we get caught up with all the characters we get a glimpse into the past to see where motives are formed and loyalties lie. By the end of this book you will want to get the next in the series right away to see where the story goes.
This book & series is pretty good. I have read many of this authors books before & enjoyed them very much. I like this series. I wish I could say I LOVED this series. It's true that I have only read 2 of them so far, but, I am interested in reading the next one. I am not DYING to read the next one, you know what I mean?
