In the eyes of many, an African American commits the ultimate act of betrayal if he or she dares to express conservative beliefs. Ironically, those before us fought for African Americans to simply vote, not be handcuffed to one particular party.

Still, because approximately ninety percent (90%) of African Americans are registered Democrats, it’s almost as if we have a “negrofied” bible that says, “If you’re black, you’re Democrat”—and that’s it. Period. That closed frame of mind leaves little desire to even acknowledge another viewpoint, let alone try to understand it.

Black People Can’t Be Republican is a collection of short stories based in Anytown, USA that explores viewpoints from various angles in a debate format—not only about political party affiliations, but other hot-button topics common in the community, such as the N-word, homosexuality, “thick” versus “fat”, and sagging pants.

Black People Can't Be Republican And Other Hot Button Topics In the African American Community eBook James W Lewis

James W Lewis is the very first African-American author to break the mold and confront issues that affect not only the African-American race but all races in such a way that makes you question your own beliefs about the system of democracy we live in. True enough, we all have the right to believe what we choose to believe and James W Lewis does a matchless and errorless job at proving that truth in his most recent book, "Black People Can't be Republican." Unlike your ordinary non-fiction politically charged book that bogs you down with a bunch of blatant statements, figures, facts, and assumptions, Black People Can' be Republican takes a different approach and exposes many controversial, hot-button topics through a fictional and accurate expose' between realistic and everyday characters that we all are very much familiar with and can relate to. Reading this book will not only awaken your spiritual man, but will position you to come face to face with a different way of viewing the world in which you live. This book is one of a kind. 5 stars

A unique perspective. However, I must say if you pay attention to politics, you already knew that the title of the book is spot on.
I gave this book a five star rating due to the fact that it was right on the point,of the fact of things the way I have never thought of before. Every concern that I can think of in this day and age, was covered and well put. I'd go to the extent of saying it should be taught as a formal course, in historically black colleges.
A good read. This book show-cases all things that we could have said when presented with the same situations...truth be told, we rarely act in a manner that correlates to the characters' actions. It was good to gain a different perspective on controversial issues affecting Black communities.
Bravo. Bravo. Love the way this book is written. Humor. Politics. Perspectives. Etc.
I'm anxious for your next one.
This book is a must read, especially for the in the box thinker who needs to break out of limited thinking.
This book is an quick read that gives you follow-up questions after each story. I find it interesting and good conversation piece. The topics range from Black Republicans, Weight (thick vs. fat), Reparations, LGBT community and acceptance; racism and so much more. For an free download it was a GREAT read.
Lewis leaps out of the box and pushes the limits of taboo conversations with these short stories. The thought provoking questions at the end of each story will force you to answer (or at least think) about the tough questions we never want to talk about in public Homosexuality, Black Republicans, the use of the N-word and many more. You will be challenged by this read and every household should have these open and honest discussions on these controversial topics.
The stories in this compelling book are humorously written, but 100% serious business. This is a book that NEEDED to be written.

It reminded me of the old Henry Ford joke. Henry once said that you could buy a Model A Ford in ANY color you want, so long as it's black. This book points out that as a black American, "You can be whatever you like, as long as it's Democrat." This is just WRONG. Free thinking people are the reason this nation rose to the top of the barrel.

No matter your skin color, ethnicity or political persuasion, this is a must-read manual for anyone willing to have an open mind, even for just a few hours. I found it enlightening and educational.

Freedom starts with education, as the TRUTH will set you free.

I also found his excellent treatise on writing to be valuable. "Slow Your Prose 25 Tips on How New Authors Can Improve Their Craft." It is also available on .
